The Data Description Template is a template (README.txt) that enables the reader of a data package to understand and reuse the data. Ideally, it should also contain information on the reliability and quality of the data.
Users should keep in mind that their data package should be a self-contained unit that can be understood and reused independently of additional materials (e.g., academic paper). As a generic research data repository, KonDATA only provides a basic set of metadata fields to register a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for your dataset at DataCite. Therefore, this README.txt file is the place where discipline-specific metadata should be recorded.
Aligning the data and metadata to the FAIR principles will significantly increase the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of the data.
