Georg Kreisel was born in Graz on 15 September 1923. After studying mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1944, MA 1947), he lectured at the University of Reading. From 1955-1957 he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton and professor of mathematics at the Sorbonne from 1960-1964. In 1954, he spend time at Stanford University as a visiting associate professor. Ten years later, in 1964, he was appointed to a Stanford professorship divided between the Departments of Philosophy and Mathematics. After his retirement in 1985, Kreisel moved to Austria, where he died near Salzburg on 1 March 2015.
The collection from the years 1958-2012 is comprised of papers and lecture manuscripts, bibliographies and special prints of his on works, typescripts and special prints of other authors as well as a large body of correspondence, mainly of a technical nature.
