Installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux

1. Please make sure that existing anti virus software has been removed before you start with the installation of Sophos Antivirus. For McAfee product users we provide  Removal Instructions.

2. Please download the installation file of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux into a temporary directory.

3. Please make sure that your computer matches the system requirements. You can look up the system requirements here.

4. Browse the temporary directory and unpack (untar) the following file:

tar -xzvf sophosAV.tgz

5. Execute the installation script as root or using sudo

sudo sophos-av/install.sh

6. Sophos Anti-Virus will be installed into the directory /opt/sophos-av/ after the latest updates are downloaded.

7. You can update the virus scanner manually with ./savupdate in the directory /opt/sophos-av/bin/.

8. Sophos Anti-Virus has a web interface for configuration, you can access the interface by going to the URL http://localhost:8082.

9. The preset HttpUser for viewing/changing the configuration with the web interface is:

User: admin

Password: sophos

Password and User can be set after installation with the command savconfig in the directory /opt/sophos-av/bin/.

./savconfig set HttpUsername xxxx


and

./savconfig set HttpPassword xxxx
